Naomi, your very powerful image combines to illuminate and be illuminated by such an appropos quote. Finding stillness is a prerequisite to prayer, and I learn from this to look more often for that stillness in art. Here, what could be only disturbing and agitating is instead centered and focused: The collage of emblems of disorder and disintegration acknowledges the storm around the figure but she lifts her internal gaze and the gaze and spirit of the viewer heavenward. We are each the eye of a storm–those raging outside us and brewing within. We seem stripped of defenses but there is always the choice to throw back one’s head, look within and look up.
Beautiful
Nice visual representation of one of my fave Saul Bellow quotes. Love the supplicating pose of the woman.
